This screen
These settings are for this screen only (the wall display and each phone can differ). There is no Save: changes apply right away.
Dashboard cards
Move, hide and resize the calendar, lists and chores on this screen only. It applies when the screen is wide.
Return to the dashboard after
When nobody has touched this screen, it closes any open window and goes back to this month.
On-screen keyboard
Pops up when a text box is tapped, for screens with no physical keyboard.
Untouched for that long, the screen dims. A tap wakes it (without pressing anything), and it wakes by itself when something changes or a note arrives. It stays bright during the tidy-up timer.
Sound
Moods
How the kids said they feel, from their check-in on their chores screen. Private: shown only here, with adult view unlocked, and never on the home screen, in texts or in notifications. It's a way to start a conversation, not a score.
The heads-up when a kid has checked in as sad, angry or worried three times in a row is under Notifications.
Holidays
Canada's and Ontario's days, fun days, and religious and cultural days, shown on the calendar. Switch off any you don't want to see. Count down adds a "sleeps until" in the top bar. There is no Save: changes apply right away, and ask for a parent PIN (not in adult view).
Your own days
A birthday party, a family reunion, an anniversary.
Other calendars
Show other calendars next to the family's: a league's schedule, a school's calendar, holidays. They're read-only here; change them where they come from. There is no Save: changes apply right away, and ask for a parent PIN (not in adult view).
From your Google account
Calendars you've subscribed to or that are shared with the family's Google account. To add one there: Google Calendar → Other calendars → + → From URL, or Browse calendars of interest for holidays.
From a link
The "subscribe" or "iCal" link from the team app or website (TeamSnap, SportsEngine, GameChanger, Spond, a school website). It starts with webcal:// or https://.
Hidden events
Hidden from the calendar (by name, every time it comes). Tap to bring one back.
Devices
Screens and phones that can open Family HQ. Remove a lost phone here.
Notifications
Everything that tells you or the family something, in one place. Things waiting for a parent (chores and prizes to approve, school dates, mood check-ins) also collect under the 🔔 at the top. There is no Save: changes apply right away.
On this phone or computer
Unlock adult view (the lock at the top) to set up alerts on this device and the mood heads-up.
Texts (iMessage)
Parents who have a number or email for texting (set under Family) can get these as texts too.
Quiet hours
On the home screen
Moods
School emails
Dates found wait for review under Notifications (the bell). To add a newsletter, school calendar or invitation yourself, use + Event → Upload.
Data & backup
Back up everything
One file with everything: people, events, lists, chores, points, routines, notes, settings and attached files. It includes adults-only items and paired devices, so keep it somewhere private. Needs a parent PIN (not in adult view).
Take the calendar with you
The family calendar from a year ago to a year ahead, as a file that opens in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook. (Adults-only events are included only in adult view.)
Download the calendar (.ics)
Your setup
Just how Family HQ is set up (chores and prizes with their rules, routines, categories, rules and sayings, bonus days) as a small file, with no people, history or private things in it. Keep it, or use it to set up another Family HQ.
Download the setup
Restore from a backup
This replaces everything in Family HQ with what's in the file: anything added since the backup was made is lost. Paired devices on this Family HQ stay as they are.
Clear history
Wipes what has been recorded. People, chores, prizes, routines, rules and settings stay. This can't be undone, so download a backup first.
About Family HQ
A private calendar and command centre for one family: the calendar, lists, chores and prizes, routines, library books and notes, on the wall screen and each family phone.
How Family HQ uses Google data · Setup and how everything works are in the project's README and SETUP guides.
